Vietnam can be divided into three different climate zones: northern, central, and southern Vietnam. Depending on the region, you have to take into account the different weather conditions.
It should be noted that the rainy season takes place at different times in different parts of the country, so temperatures and rainfall vary greatly depending on the region.
The climate in northern Vietnam is characterized by hot summers and cold winters. In the summer months, temperatures can rise to over 30°C, and from May to October there is also a rainy season. During this time, heavy rainfall and flooding can occur frequently in northern Vietnam. Due to the high humidity, many Europeans avoid central Vietnam at this time, but this time of year is ideal for nature lovers as the vegetation is in full bloom.
From November to April, precipitation is lower, and the dry season is characterized by mild temperatures. During the cool and dry winter months in northern Vietnam, temperatures range from 14 to 22°C, although it can of course get colder in mountainous regions.
Central Vietnam is home to the popular coastal city of Da Nang and the resort town of Hoi An. The tropical, alternating humid climate is typical for this part of the country. The summer months are characterized by hot temperatures of over 30°C and few rainy days. Temperatures are rising.
The rainy season begins here in autumn, October and November are interspersed with heavy showers and sometimes typhoons. Due to the increasing occurrence of landslides and floods, caution is advised when visiting during the rainy season. It is slightly cooler between February and May with an average of 24 to 28°C, which is why most holidaymakers choose these months to visit central Vietnam.
The south of Vietnam is hot and humid all year round. High temperatures are unavoidable here, but the most pleasant are from November to January with highs of 30°C. At the same time, rainfall is also slightly lower, making winter a warm and dry season in the south.
The rainy season begins in May, temperatures rise to 35°C and even at night it cools down to only 22°C. The time with the most frequent rainy days is from July to October, the afternoons are interspersed with short but heavy rain showers. The air is very humid and hot, which should be taken into account if hiking or sports activities are planned.
The best time to visit depends on several factors, including weather and personal preference. Despite several advantages and disadvantages of individual seasons, you can travel to Vietnam all year round. The country offers untouched natural landscapes and colourful cultural festivals all year round. It is not without reason that Vietnam is becoming more and more popular as a travel destination and is at the top of the list for almost every traveller. A trip to Vietnam is an enrichment for every travel lover.
